Kapla at Christmas: our pick of the best boxes to gift this year

Article written by Maïlys, co-founder of Kaplea

You're thinking of giving Kapla to a child for Christmas: we can confirm it's a great idea! You can be sure this wooden toy will really be a hit, that it will last, and that it won't end up forgotten at the back of a cupboard come January (the sad fate of many toys, let's admit it).

Now the question is which Kapla set is right for him or her: just the Kapla, or a set with the book? How many Kapla are needed depending on age?

Simple, timeless and indestructible, discover our advice for this gift that spans the ages and the fashions with our selection of Kapla boxes that are sure to please, whatever your budget.

Why give Kapla at Christmas?

Before we dive into our selection, a quick reminder of what makes this toy so special:

  • A screen-free toy that spans every generation

  • A single element (the famous plank) for endless possibilities

  • A toy that grows with you: you can always extend your collection with new boxes

  • Wood from Landes pine, French, natural and long-lasting

  • Suitable from age 3 to age 99!

The 100 box: the ideal first box for Christmas

It's the perfect size for discovering the world of Kapla and for giving a first box to a child who doesn't have one yet.

With 100 wooden planks of natural wood, it's a gentle way into the world of building in wood, because that number of Kapla is enough to make the classic, easy models.

The price is also more affordable than other boxes with more planks (around €36 on Amazon).

👧 Who is it for? Children from age 3, for a first Kapla Christmas.

Give the 200 Barrel for bigger builds

A little more generous, this barrel of 200 planks is easy to store thanks to its barrel-shaped container. The advantage of having this many wooden pieces is that children can make more ambitious builds in terms of number of pieces, volume, and so on: castles, bridges, marble runs...

An excellent compromise between budget and playing fun for children over 6. You'll see that you'll soon need more if you bought a model with fewer planks!

👧 Who is it for? Families who want to think big, or children who have already tried a first box.

The winter version of Kapla, perfect for the festive season!

Coloured boxes are perfect for giving a little twist to tradition, and especially the winter version to put under the tree!

Yes, Kapla boxes also come in coloured versions (red, blue, yellow, green...), which allow even more creative and personalised builds. Kapla has made a version for each season: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter.

As for colours, I particularly like the winter version because the colours are very soft, and I think it's a lovely nod to Christmas. You can find it here on Amazon.

👧 Who is it for? An excellent choice for children who like mixing colours, and for the very young (2 or 3 years old) who are discovering motor skills.

The ultimate Christmas present: the 280 combo and inspiration book for enthusiasts

With its 280 planks, this kit is for children (and parents!) who are already hooked and want to build more impressive creations.

A really lovely gift that marks the occasion for a slightly more generous Christmas, as the price is close to €100.

The art book is made up of several Kapla models. Even if not everything is explained in detail, it gets your child's imagination working as they figure out how to build these designs.

👧 Who is it for? For children from age 6, because the art book requires a certain level of understanding, and being comfortable with questions of balance and space.
